About Chick
Armando Anthony “Chick” Corea
June 12th 1941 - Feb 9th 2021
In 2010, the legendary keyboard virtuoso and 23-time GRAMMY Award winner was inducted into the DownBeat Hall of Fame—a milestone honouring more than 50 years of remarkable creativity and influence.
His work spanned an extraordinary range of styles: from straight-ahead jazz to the avant-garde, from bebop to fusion, from children’s songs to chamber music. Across it all, he maintained a standard of artistry and excellence that continues to inspire musicians and listeners alike.
In his early years, he shared the stage with giants of jazz—Cab Calloway, Stan Getz, Sarah Vaughan—lending his voice to the heart of the mainstream. But it was in the late ’60s, alongside Miles Davis, that his star burned brightest. As part of a fearless circle of young visionaries, he helped forge Bitches Brew—a bold, electric odyssey that shattered conventions and reimagined the sound of jazz.
When the ’70s dawned, he stepped to the front, leading with passion and imagination. With Return to Forever, he lit a fire under jazz-rock fusion, forever changing its course. And as the decade unfolded, he spun sonic tales with albums like The Leprechaun, Mad Hatter, and My Spanish Heart—each a world of wonder, rhythm, and radiant invention.
